Sound On or Sound Off? Telling Your Video’s Story with Text or a Voiceover

Posted by Bradley Popkin on Sep 7, 2017 2:24:10 PM

Sound is no longer a priority for most video publishers, but that doesn’t mean it’s completely out of the fold. In February, Facebook said that videos would now autoplay with sound on. It’s a bold step that is sure to please video advertisers, but its impact on views remains to be seen. Facebook is a video goldmine with over 8 billion video views daily and although 85% of Facebook video is watched with sound off, the social media giant is hoping to replicate the success Snapchat has enjoyed. 5 Newsroom Tasks That You Should Be Automating... & 4 That You Shouldn't

Posted by Lisa Lacy on Aug 30, 2017 12:24:45 PM

The journalism industry has experienced profound change in recent history and the pace is showing no sign of abating with the introduction of AI. Contrary to popular belief, however, AI is not going to “take over” the workplace. News organizations can incorporate AI to make reporters’ and editors’ lives easier – and to create more and/or better stories – but there will always be a need for human creativity in journalism. Here’s a look at the newsroom tasks that automated journalism should be leveraged for, and those that are better off left to human journalists.

The Newsroom Shift - Why We're Seeing So Much ‘Pivot to Video’

Posted by Justen Haynes on Aug 22, 2017 10:07:12 AM

It’s no secret that video is an integral part of the modern newsroom. Some of the biggest players in publishing have been shifting the focus (and the structure) of their newsrooms to incorporate short-form video content. Time Inc., Mic, and MTV are just the latest to contribute to the trend by cutting down on their editorial staff and making room for video experts who can overlap visuals with written content.

But there’s no need to worry! It’s all a part of the evolution of news. Journalists have been following the same processes to cover the news for many years, and now it’s time to adapt to the new digital market. Here are the biggest contributing factors to this new wave of newsroom shifts - and why it’s simply necessary to adapt accordingly:

How Francesco Marconi is Using Video Automation to Promote His Book

Posted by Sarah Hughes on Aug 16, 2017 12:01:00 AM

For author and media strategist Francesco Marconi, a book is a story, a narrative. It's not a fixed thing. It's a journey.

Marconi began his journey in 2015 when he started publishing his personal notes on finding life inspiration via his Medium page. Rather than taking the traditional route to brainstorming a book, the author invited people on the internet to make choices, write comments, share opinions, and be part of his writing process in real time. The resulting data, rather than a pre-established set of ideas, drove the story.

As a result of that innovative process, Francesco Marconi just published Live Like Fiction, where he shares his life story and the strategies he used to accelerate success. The illustrated book acts as a 30-day boot camp for anyone to find purpose through storytelling. His message is simple: the best way to live our lives is to become the author of our own life story.

In order to promote his book and connect with his audience, Marconi has enlisted the help of various emerging technologies - and has found notable success in using automated videos powered by Wibbitz. Each video created summarizes one of the 30 mini chapters – one for each day of the month. Designed to be remembered (and implemented), the videos have a pithy titles, bold graphics, and a straight-talk tone. With these videos, Marconi's professional advice is like an intimate, serious talk between friends at a coffee shop, swapping unfiltered tales of lessons learned at work.

Here are the four key principles guiding Live Like Fiction’s video strategy:
